Rant ~ A health pandemic creating another plastic waste pandemic

A dolphins dinner?

A new waste pandemic

The current corona pandemic is emerging to create another waste pandemic. Disposable face-masks. Have we not learnt ANYTHING! Face-masks may or may not be a useful way to combat this virus, the jury is still out. Take away the workers who have and will always need them. Many countries are using them as a method to combat the virus.

If the 1.3 billion people in China are using them and many countries in Europe, that’s a lot of face-masks used daily. So where is all the waste going? Just like beer can plastic rings, single-use plastic bags, and straws before them, face-masks are yet another single-use waste product we have created to ‘fix’ a problem, becoming dinner for our dolphins.

I understand we are in a health pandemic, but we have been in a waste pandemic and will continue to be after the current corona crisis has dissipated.

Just when we had started changing our straw habits, we have once again created a new unwanted food source for our sea life. Grrrrr
